“Let’s Stay Together” is a song written by Albert Greene (born April 13, 1946) aka Al Green, Al Jackson, Jr. & Willie Mitchell. It appeared on Al Green’s 1972 album, on Hi Records, of the same name. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and remained on the chart for 16 weeks. It also topped Billboard’s R&B chart for nine weeks. The song later appeared on the soundtrack to Pulp Fiction. It was ranked the 60th greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

It was later covered by Anna Mae Bullock (born November 26, 1939) aka Tina Turner on her Private Dancer album (Capitol Records), and served as her comeback single in 1983, charting at number six in the UK (1 place higher than Al Green’s original) and number 26 in the U.S. It has also been covered by Michael Bolton, Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child, as well as by At Last on the first season of America’s Got Talent, who performed it acappella. Isaac Hayes, Jimmy McGriff, Roy Ayers and even the Shirelles have covered this song as well. And today’s artists from Robin Thicke to Kanye West include it in their concert performances because its just a GOOD song period.

But of course the original Al green and the Tina Turner cover are the most famous recordings. And you know I am gonna ask you which do you prefer?

Oh and one more thing, my grandmother made all of my clothes until I was in my teens and I had learned from her (the master) how to make them myself. But being a teenager there came a time when I just *had* to have a “store-bought” suit. Well my first “store-bought” suit was a three piece brown and grey plaid suit: it was a double-breasted jacket, a skirt, and slacks. I had forgotten all about it until I saw this video with Al Green wearing his plaid suite of the era. Guess we were both pretty hip (LOL).
