Alton Ellis, the smooth Jamaican singer and songwriter known as the Godfather of Rock Steady, died early Saturday morning (local time) in London. He was 70 and had lived in Middlesex, England, for nearly two decades.

Read this NY Times obituary here.

Here is Mr. Ellis singing live his 1967 hit (that he co-wrote with Clement “Coxsone” Dodd) “I’m Still in Love With You.”  This is a reggae classic that has been covered too many times to count.

R.I.P. Mr. Ellis.
