updated 2 hours, 45 minutes ago

(CNN) — Soul singer and arranger Isaac Hayes, who won Grammy awards and an Oscar for the theme from the 1971 action film “Shaft,” has died, sheriff’s officials in Memphis, Tennessee, reported Sunday.

Relatives found Hayes, 65, unconscious in his home next to a still-running treadmill, said Steve Shular, a spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.

Paramedics attempted to revive him and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m., the sheriff’s department said.

No foul play is suspected, the agency said in a written statement.

The CNN Obituary continues here.

OMG!  When I left the house this morning an Isaac Hayes song was playing on the car radio and I thought,  “Wow, I haven’t heard that one in a while! Nice”.  Hours later on my way home for the evening another Isaac Hayes song, “Walk on By”, was playing on the car radio.   After an hour or so I had my belated “duh” moment thinking “uh oh”  I hope Isaac wasn’t in an accident of some sort like Morgan Freeman.  So I googled and was stunned to find that Mr. Hayes had passed.

First musician Erik Darling,  then entertainer Bernie Mac, now Isaac Hayes has gone home — the latter two far too soon. These passings usually come in threes so hopefully there will be no more celebrity passings anytime soon.

Let’s celebrate the life and talent of Isaac Hayes by enjoying his 1973 live performance of Burt Bacharach’s “The Look of Love.”

  1. He provided one of my honest and sincerest musical soundtracks and those for milestones.

  2. It’s amazing how we feel so close to artists, through the music we’ve come to love.

    Great post.

    R.I.P. Isaac Hayes

  3. So true Artster,

I guess since we listen to them in our homes and car (and even in the bathroom sometime(LOL))we feel like close and personal friends to them. I just hope that in their hearts and soul they know how much we appreciate their talent.
