This song, recorded and written by pianist Floyd Cramer, was a hit no matter how you sliced it. Released in 1960, it reached #2 on the Billboard Black Singles chart, #2 on the Billboard Pop Singles Chart. Then in the following year, 1961, it reached #11 on the Billboard Country Singles Chart.

In 2003, this studio musician and musical innovator, was posthumously inducted into both the “Country Music Hall of Fame” and the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

Now that’s what you call true universal appeal for those times!
