R.I. P. Porter Wagoner (8/12/1927 – 10/28/2007)

Even though my grandmother/guardian watched the “Porter Wagoner” show during my childhood – I was not then, nor am I now, a big Country Western Music fan. But I am a Dolly Parton fan and I have the utmost respect for Porter Wagoner, as a person, for all he did in mentoring Dolly, leading her to becoming an all-around icon of this era.

When you watch the clip above check out Porter’s jacket(s). He rivaled Liberace in his flamboyance!

Now I would certainly be remiss if I did not share this clip of Dolly singing the song she specifically wrote for Porter – to Porter. What better way to pay homage to the man who brought James Brown to the grand Old Opry!?

A Porter Wagoner Biography

Ms. Dolly – stay strong.
